The AOL/Intel hoax
A hoax email is making it's way round the net.

This promises you thousands of dollars if you forward this email about an AOL/Intel beta test to all your friends.

Don't waste your time and clog up the web - this is a form of spam, designed to work like a chain-mail letter. If you get this type of email sent to you by one of your well-meaning friends, check out this web link first to see the most popular hoaxes doing the rounds at the moment:  http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

The Cable Guy - a true story
Last month one of my clients, who had bought his first ever computer - a Dell laptop, set up an appointment for his cable company to install broadband in his apartment.

I was due to go to his apartment the following day to set up a wireless network, email and other stuff to help get him started.

I need to add that my client is meticulous, and wanted to make sure everything was ready for me, so he painstakingly arranged the appointments so that the laptop would be delivered, the broadband installed and I would then arrive - in that order.

The day before my appointment, I got a panic-stricken call from him on my cell saying the cable guy was refusing to install the broadband because my client's laptop was not 'set up' and working. I asked to speak to the technician. He reluctantly came to the phone; I introduced myself as the client's PC tech, and asked why he was unable to install the service when all he had to do was connect, via a modem, to a brand new laptop. He replied that rules state that he has to be able to test the service, and as the laptop was not set up, he was not going to complete the job. Before I could say anything else, the phone was handed back to my client who, in a distraught voice, said he had to go and would call me later.

I called my client a few hours later checking to see if he still wanted me to call round the following day, given the earlier problems.

"Oh, it's not a problem anymore" said my client. "The cable guy did the job in the end."

"Really" I said, "what happened?"

"He thought my Dell 'all-in-one' printer, which was still in its box, was my laptop, and I pointed this out to him as he was about to leave!"

The site's now live!

The site went live today. I realize that there is not a whole load of content yet, but I will be working on developing it based on feedback from my family, friends and clients.

I am so busy with work (a good thing) that I haven't been able to dedicate as much time to this as I would like, but this is definitely a "work in progress".

Thanks very much to my website developers who have been brilliant at translating my ideas and dealing with all my requests, led by Veronica. I would definitely recommend them.
